Your animal companion understands one language of your choosing (usually common). Its size is small or medium.
For ease of play reasons, it is assumed that your beast companion generally does as you wish and you are allowed to control all of its actions in combat, though it does still have a will of its own.
All companions have the following set of ability scores and armor, chosen on character creation. Add dexterity to this armor value.

All companions have the following traits
Traits
Blindsense (scent, 5 ft), night vision, evasion, +4 vs charm effects and a single natural attack that deals d10 crush, slash or pierce damage, chosen on character creation.
Speed
Base 30. Then either choose to gain an equal swim speed, climb speed or +10 base speed. Companions with a swim speed are amphibious.
Battle Buddy
Companions give allies (and themselves) flanking as long as they threaten the same enemy as an ally.
Adaptation Points
By default, companions have 5 adaptation points. Then gain 1 every even level. If something mentions a single attack, then it only applies to one attack not one type (no double dipping with many claws/tentacles). They can choose any features from the general/animal list of the shapeshifter rules.
Lost Companions
When your companion dies, you can do a one minute ritual on its body to bring it back from the dead. When the ritual is complete it is restored to max hp. You and your companion gained drained 2.
One Liner
Your companion is capable of speaking in common, but only once per session.
