Chase
Battlemaps are great! They allow you to visually represent things for set piece encounters. But what happens when the battle is on the move? Things like teleportation and tons of speed feel like a cop out and doesn’t bring the kind of tension you might want when trying to evade capture or running someone down.
The chase rules exist as an alternative to combat to quantify certain types of strategies, advantages and random circumstances that can make your escape/chase feel exciting.
Keep in mind, chases require a great deal of improvisation since many abilities will be used for things that are atypical. The DM will need to create randomness (like parades, ornery animals in a pet store, oil spills) that can coincidentally benefit either side etc.
Can also be used for races!
